The Dining Room

November 2002

I designed The Dining Room in the fall of my sophomore year at the University of Evansville. This was a student directed and designed production, and my first realized production at UE. For those that don’t know the show, it is a series of short scenes about WASP culture. The central element tying these scenes together was the setting, the dining room.

We approached this show with the idea that the scenes were almost memories of the dining room itself. Because of this, I tried to base every scene on my own memories. The yellow air in my grandmothers dining room, the way the sky lights up at night in a city when it snows, or even the just every day family dinners around my own dining room table.
